BP Solar began offering their line of Solar Home Solutions in 40 San Diego-based Home Depot stores last year. That localized plan only lasted so long, however, as the company wants to bring all of California on-line with its home power system offerings.
BP and Home Depot expanded the program once already in December 2004 when the Solar Home Solutions system was introduced in 42 stores in the Los Angeles area. The latest expansion includes an additional 76 stores between Bakersfield and San Luis Obispo, with the greatest concentration in the San Francisco Bay region.
Is $60-a-barrel oil in our future? In our near future? Yep. It's a sure thing.
And once the oil market has cracked that psychological barrier, you should expect it to run higher before taking another breather.
You can thank Vladimir Putin and those apparatchiks who run Russia's economy for the run-up. They've just about guaranteed that Russia's oil industry won't get the foreign capital it needs to expand the number of barrels the country pumps annually.
2Wire, which is one of the main suppliers of boring stuff like DSL modems to the likes of SBC has just announced a new gateway, 2000 Series, which has an ADSL2/2+ modem chip built into the box. Intel’s claim of technological parity with AMD is an easily penetrated smoke screen.
Until Intel delivers its dual-core Xeon, its competitive technology remains Hyper-Threading. Hyper-Threading is an ingenious stopgap that Intel developed to boost the performance of a narrow range of applications.... But even with applications that use many threads, Hyper-Threading delivers, even by Intel estimates, a maximum of about 30 percent improvement to an application’s performance. And these benefits are limited only to heavily threaded applications; Hyper-Threading does not speed up the entire system. In fact, with most systems running a mix of threads and processes, Hyper-Threading can harm performance; a scan of Intel’s SPEC benchmarks reveals that Xeon system vendors often disable Hyper-Threading to improve Xeon’s results.
...the Profunds Falling US Dollar fund (FDPIX) and Rising US Dollar fund (RDPIX) priced back in March. ... it opens the door for simple currency hedging by individuals. My guess is that a leveraged product will come out soon because these types of funds tend to be very expensive and the leverage helps overcome the expense. Leverage is not a bad thing, it depends on how it is used. If a currency fund is going to be used at all it would be as a small hedge to a portfolio not as a core strategy.
Lets hope there is more competitive innovation still to come.
Think of it as "broadband on steroids." The primary benefit of the emerging technology known as "WiMax" will be that it untethers everyone from their computers while bringing high-speed Internet access to rural and suburban areas. The industry has been waiting for the deluge for some time now, and the floodgates should open with Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) release of its WiMax "Rosedale" chip on Monday.
Evolution of Versatile LEDs Could One Day Make Thomas Edison's Light Bulb a Thing of the Past
LEDs have evolved quickly and are being adapted for many uses, including pool illumination and reading lights, as evidenced at the Lightfair trade show here this week.
More widespread use could lead to big energy savings and a minor revolution in the way we think about lighting.
An increasingly belligerent China makes nice with old enemies while it threatens U.S. allies Japan and Australia. Is an attack on Taiwan becoming an issue of when rather than if?
Short-selling -- betting on falling prices -- isn't allowed in individual retirement accounts (IRAs) or 401(k)s. You can, however, use "inverse funds" as a proxy for a short.
